UNCF Empower Me Tour

Chicago Public Schools students are invited to meet with over 30 Historically Black Colleges and Universities at the 2017 United Negro College Fund Empower Me Tour, Thursday, November 2, 2017. Participants attend a series of presentations, panels and interactive workshops offered through two distinct tracks—a college-readiness program and a career-readiness program—to help them get successfully to and through college and obtain meaningful employment thereafter. A number of colleges will be offering on site admission and conducting scholarship interviews. Senior participants also have a unique opportunity to submit a completed packet to apply for the $5,000 “Chicago Empower Me Tour Merit Scholarship” sponsored by Target. Six awards will be announced at the end of the event.

Time: 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM.

Register to attend by Friday, October 20th

Confirmation will be shared the week of October 23rd from the CPS Scholarship Manager via email (CollegeScholarships@cps.edu )

 

Students will need to bring:

  • multiple copies of transcripts (at least 5)
  • ACT/SAT test scores
  • General Letter(s) of Recommendation(s)
  • An essay titled “Why I Want to go to College” or a Personal Statement
  • Resume (optional but encouraged)

School (Group) Registration CLICK HERE

In order to attend this event, students must attend with their CPS school unless chaperoned by an adult. Schools bringing 10 or more students, please complete the group registration by Friday, October 20th.

Students not accompanied by an adult will not be allowed inside of the facility. Confirmation emails will be shared the week of October 23rd from the CPS Scholarship Manager via the CollegeScholarships@cps.edu account. Confirmation is required to attend.

 

Parent & Student (Individual) Registration CLICK HERE

Chicago Public School Student and Parents are invited to attend the Empower Me Tour (Thursday, Nov 2nd) and Parent Meeting (Wednesday, Nov 1st.) If you are planning to attend one or both events, Parents AND Students MUST register to participate. If the student will be attending the fair (at UIC) with their high school site, parents must still individually register to participate in the parent workshop. Registration must be completed by Friday, October 20th. Confirmation emails will be shared the week of October 23rd from the CPS Scholarship Manager via the CollegeScholarships@cps.edu account. Confirmation is required to attend.

EMT Merit Scholarship

SPECIAL CHICAGO MERIT $5,000 SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY:

Senior student participants will have the opportunity to apply for the Chicago Empower Me Tour Merit Scholarship funded by Target. Six students who submit their information on site will receive a $5,000 scholarship that can be applied to any institution of their choice in the fall of 2018.

 

Eligibility Criteria & Submission Process: 

  1. Must be a graduating senior attending the Empower Me Tour – Chicago (no exceptions)
  2. Current cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

 

Packet MUST include:

  1. One letter of recommendation from a teacher
  2. An essay of 500 words of less on “How the Scholarship Will Help You”
  3. Completed documents packet must be submitted upon arrival at the “Registration Table” at the UIC Forum
